Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup chickpeas, cooked and mashed Use canned or cooked chickpeas.
  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1/4 cup nutritional yeast Can be substituted with onion or garlic powder.
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil for cooking

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, take your cooked chickpeas and mash them until they are mostly smooth, leaving a few chunks for texture.
  2. Add in the oats, nutritional yeast, smoked paprika, cumin, salt, and pepper. Stir until everything is evenly combined.
  3. In a pan, heat a tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until they are softened and aromatic, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Fold the sautéed mixture into the chickpea blend. Mix thoroughly until you create a cohesive mixture. You want it to be pliable, not too wet or too dry.
  5. Form the mixture into small, round patties, about 2-3 inches wide.
  6. Heat the remaining tablespoon of olive oil in the pan over medium heat. Once hot, carefully add the patties. Cook each side for about 4-5 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Once cooked, serve them warm with your favorite toppings and sides!

Notes

These patties can be prepped in advance and stored in the fridge. For a healthier option, bake them at 375°F for about 20-25 minutes.
