Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened unsalted butter on medium speed until light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).
  2. Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing on low speed until combined.
  3. Add the vanilla extract and 2 tablespoons of heavy cream or milk and mix on medium speed until well blended.
  4. Adjust the consistency by adding more cream if too thick, one tablespoon at a time.
  5. Once combined, scrape the bowl sides and beat for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  6. Taste and adjust sweetness or flavor if desired.

Notes

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week, or freeze for up to three months. Allow to sit at room temperature for 15-20 minutes and rewhip to restore texture before use.
