Preparation
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, mirin, sake, and sugar until well combined.
- Add the chicken pieces to the marinade, making sure they are evenly coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes, or longer if possible.
- If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for about 30 minutes to prevent burning on the grill.
- Thread the marinated chicken pieces onto the skewers, leaving a little space between each piece.
Cooking
- Preheat your grill or grill pan on medium-high heat. Once hot, drizzle with vegetable oil to prevent sticking.
- Place the skewers on the grill and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until the chicken is cooked through and has nice grill marks.
- Remove from the grill and top with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
- Enjoy your Sweet & Savory Chicken Yakitori hot off the grill.
Notes
For gluten-free option, use Tamari instead of soy sauce. To prevent dry chicken, do not skip the marinating step.
