  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar 1/4 cup additional sugar for rolling.
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour Whole wheat flour can be used for a different texture.
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.25 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter and 1 1/2 cups of granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time and mix well, followed by the vanilla extract. The batter should be smooth and creamy.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
  6. Spread the batter evenly into the greased baking pan.
Baking
  1. Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Cooling and Serving
  1. Let the bars cool completely in the pan before slicing them into squares.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days or refrigerate for 1-2 weeks. For longer storage, freeze individually wrapped squares.
