  • 1 cup pitted dates Make sure the dates are soft and fresh.
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips Use halal-certified chocolate chips if necessary.
  • 1/4 cup caramel sauce Store-bought or homemade can be used.
  • 1 pinch sea salt Enhances flavor.
  • to taste nuts or coconut for topping Optional, for added texture.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Pit and chop the dates into smaller pieces for easier mashing.
  2. In a small bowl, microwave dark chocolate chips in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until melted and smooth.
Assembly
  1. In a mixing bowl, mash the chopped dates using a fork or your hands until they form a sticky consistency.
  2. Form small portions of mashed dates into bite-sized balls and create a small indentation in each ball using your thumb.
  3. Pour caramel sauce into each indentation, filling them without overflowing.
  4. Drizzle melted dark chocolate over each filled date ball.
  5. Sprinkle a pinch of sea salt on top and add any nuts or coconut if desired.
Finishing Touches
  1. Refrigerate the bites for about 10-15 minutes until set.
  2. Serve chilled for the best texture.

Notes

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week or freeze for 2-3 months. Thaw in the fridge before serving.
