Preparation
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined—don’t overwork the meat.
- Form this mixture into four oval-shaped patties.
Cooking
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the patties to the skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side, until browned and cooked through.
- Remove them from the skillet and set aside.
Making the gravy
- In the same skillet, whisk in the flour and allow it to cook for about 1 minute until golden brown.
- Slowly stir in the beef broth, ketchup, and mustard.
- Bring to a simmer, allowing it to thicken for 2-3 minutes.
Combining
- Return the patties to the skillet, spoon the gravy over them, and simmer for a couple more minutes.
Serving
- Plate your Salisbury Steak with a generous amount of gravy on top. Pair with mashed potatoes or steamed veggies for a complete meal.
Notes
To ensure juicy patties, avoid pressing down on them while cooking. Meal prep is easy; cooked patties can be stored for up to 3 days and frozen for up to 3 months.
