Preparation
- In a large bowl, combine 1 lb of ground beef with 1/2 cup of breadcrumbs, 1/4 cup of finely chopped onion, 1 egg, salt, and pepper. Use your hands to mix until all components are combined well.
- Form the mixture into oval-shaped patties, about 1/2 inch thick.
Cooking
- Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the patties to the pan, cooking for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned. Remove them from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add 1 cup of beef broth and 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce. Stir well and scrape any brown bits off the pan. Return the patties to the skillet and simmer in the gravy for about 5-7 minutes.
- Once the patties are cooked through, serve them warm, smothered in gravy, and garnished with your favorite toppings like sautéed mushrooms or a sprinkle of chopped parsley.
Notes
For best results, let patties rest after cooking to keep them juicy. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat on medium heat or microwave at medium power.
