Ingredients
  

For the Cookies
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 cups cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Frosting
  • 0.5 cups cream cheese (softened)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for the frosting)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until fluffy.
  5. Beat in the egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
Baking
  1. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until well combined.
  2. Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving space between cookies.
  3. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are set and the centers remain soft.
  4. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
Frosting
  1. In a separate bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth.
  2. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until creamy.
  3. Once the cookies are completely cooled, spread the frosting on top of each cookie.
