  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 cup vegetable broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Sprinkle in the flour, whisking continuously for about 1 minute to create a roux.
  3. Add chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Whisk for another minute.
  4. Pour in the tomato sauce and vegetable broth, whisking until smooth.
  5. Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer, stirring occasionally, for about 10 minutes.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning as necessary.
  7. Once thickened, remove from heat and serve over your favorite dishes.

Notes

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week or freeze for up to three months. Reheat slowly in a saucepan over medium heat.
