Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour You can substitute with whole wheat flour.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup yogurt (plain)
  • 1/4 cup warm water Adjust for whole wheat flour.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
Optional Flavor Additions
  • to taste chopped garlic or herbs For added flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder. Stir to combine well.
  2. In a small bowl, mix in the yogurt, warm water, and olive oil until blended.
  3. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the wet mixture. Stir until combined, then knead the dough in the bowl for about 5 minutes until it forms a smooth ball.
  4. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let the dough rest for approximately 1 hour at room temperature.
Cooking
  1. Once rested, divide the dough into 4 equal balls. Roll each ball into a flat oval or circle about 1/4 inch thick.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, place a piece of dough in the skillet. Cook for about 1-2 minutes, or until you see bubbles forming.
  3. Flip it over and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until golden brown.
  4. Transfer to a plate and cover with a clean towel to keep warm while you repeat the process with the remaining dough.
  5. Enjoy your fresh naan warm, with toppings or alongside your favorite dishes!

Notes

For flavor variations, mix in chopped garlic or herbs like cilantro directly into the dough before rolling it out. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 day or refrigerate for 3 days. Freeze wrapped for up to 2 months.
