Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast Make sure your yeast is fresh for the best result.
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water Make sure the water is about 110°F.
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour Consider using bread flour for a softer texture.
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Method

Preparation
  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water. Sprinkle the yeast over the water and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine 5 cups of all-purpose flour and 1 tablespoon of salt. Mix them well to ensure even distribution.
  3. Once the yeast is frothy, add it to the dry mixture alongside 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil.
  4. Combine the ingredients until a dough starts to form. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead it for about 5-7 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
  5. Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a lightly oiled bowl, covering it with a damp cloth. Allow the dough to rest for about 20 minutes.
Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into two equal portions.
  2. Shape them into loaves and place in greased pans for a second rise, about 10 minutes.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes. The bread should turn golden brown and sound hollow when tapped.
  4. Let the loaves cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before removing them to wire racks.

Notes

To keep your bread fresh, wrap it in plastic wrap or foil and store at room temperature for 3-4 days. For longer storage, slice and freeze in an airtight container. It will last about 2-3 months in the freezer. Thaw at room temperature or toast before serving.
