  • 4 cups sliced apples (preferably Granny Smith, for a tart flavor) Core, peel, and slice your apples into thin pieces.
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar Can use coconut sugar for a lower-sugar option.
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Core, peel, and slice the apples into thin pieces.
Make the Topping
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the rolled oats, whole wheat flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, melted butter, and salt. Mix until well blended and crumbly.
Assembly
  1. Spread the sliced apples evenly at the bottom of a greased baking dish.
  2. Evenly distribute the oat mixture over the apples, ensuring they are completely covered.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for around 30-35 minutes, or until apples are tender and topping is golden brown.
  2. Allow to cool for about 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For added sweetness, mix in sliced pears. You can store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or freeze for 1-2 months.
