  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon Use fresh ground for better flavor.
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves Use fresh ground for better flavor.
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened Allow to soften at room temperature.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon grated orange zest
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Glaze
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice Adjust to preferred consistency.

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (about 175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, ground cinnamon, and ground cloves. Set aside.
  3. In another bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add the egg, orange zest, and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and blend well until combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  6. Using a spoon or cookie scoop, portion the cookie dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving space between each cookie.
Baking
  1. Bake for about 12-15 minutes, or until edges are slightly golden.
  2. While the cookies cool, mix the powdered sugar with orange juice in a bowl until smooth.
  3. Once the cookies are fully cooled, drizzle or spread the glaze over them and allow it to set.

Notes

For a dairy-free option, substitute butter with plant-based butter. Make sure to use fresh spices for optimal flavor. Chill the dough if it feels too warm before shaping.
