Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (about 175°C).
- In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, ground cinnamon, and ground cloves. Set aside.
- In another bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the egg, orange zest, and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and blend well until combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
- Using a spoon or cookie scoop, portion the cookie dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving space between each cookie.
Baking
- Bake for about 12-15 minutes, or until edges are slightly golden.
- While the cookies cool, mix the powdered sugar with orange juice in a bowl until smooth.
- Once the cookies are fully cooled, drizzle or spread the glaze over them and allow it to set.
Notes
For a dairy-free option, substitute butter with plant-based butter. Make sure to use fresh spices for optimal flavor. Chill the dough if it feels too warm before shaping.
