Preparation
- Gather all the ingredients and measure them out beforehand for an easy cooking experience.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar and water. Stir gently to combine but be careful not to over-mix.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat. Allow the sugar to dissolve without stirring. Keep an eye on it as it heats and begins to boil.
- Swirl the pan occasionally (no stirring) to ensure even coloring, until the mixture reaches a deep amber color.
- Remove the pan from heat and immediately add the butter and heavy cream carefully, stirring until well combined.
- Stir in the sea salt and vanilla extract. Let the sauce cool slightly before serving.
Notes
For a healthier version, experiment with coconut sugar or honey, but note that the taste may vary. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Reheat gently before serving.
