Preparation
- Drain the firm tofu and press it to remove excess water by wrapping it in a clean towel and placing something heavy on top for about 15 minutes.
- Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes for optimal crispiness.
Cooking
- In a large non-stick pan, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat.
- Add the minced garlic to the oil, stirring frequently for about a minute until fragrant.
- Carefully place the tofu cubes into the pan and sear without stirring for 3-4 minutes until golden brown.
- Sprinkle the black pepper and salt over the tofu, then pour the soy sauce over the mixture and gently stir to coat.
- Continue cooking for an additional 5 minutes, allowing the tofu to absorb the flavors.
- Remove from heat, garnish with chopped green onions if desired, and serve warm.
Notes
For variations, use sesame oil instead of olive oil or shallots instead of garlic for a sweeter taste. Ensure not to overcrowd the pan while cooking for crispy results.
