Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Use high-quality flour for best results.
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • as needed Oil for frying Choose a high-quality oil suitable for frying.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, add 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Combine these dry ingredients thoroughly.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 cup of milk and 1 large egg. Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently for about 1 minute, just until it is smooth. Avoid over-kneading, as this can make the bites tough.
  4. In a deep pan or skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat. You will need enough oil to submerge the dough bites about halfway.
  5. With your hands, pinch off small pieces of dough and roll them into balls or flatter shapes, depending on your preference.
Frying
  1. Once the oil is hot, gently drop the dough pieces into the oil, frying them in batches. Fry each side for about 2-3 minutes until they are golden brown.
  2. Remove the fried bites using a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to absorb the excess oil. Serve warm with your preferred toppings!

Notes

For gluten-free options, substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free baking blend. Experiment with spices like cinnamon or cardamom for variations. Proper oil temperature is crucial for the best results.
