Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a large baking dish with butter.
Layering and Baking
- Start by layering thinly sliced potatoes at the bottom of the dish and season with salt and pepper.
- Add a layer of onions followed by a little cream.
- Repeat the layering process until all ingredients are used up, finishing with a generous layer of cream.
- Sprinkle the grated cheese over the top.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
- Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
Let cool slightly before slicing to prevent falling apart. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for a month.
