Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 14 oz firm or extra-firm tofu (pressed and drained) Ensure the tofu is well pressed to eliminate excess moisture.
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce Use low-sodium if desired.
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2-3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 tsp ginger (grated)
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1-2 tbsp maple syrup or honey
  • 1 tsp chili flakes or black pepper (optional)

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by pressing the tofu with a heavy object (like a cast-iron skillet) for at least 15-20 minutes to get rid of excess moisture.
  2. In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, rice vinegar, and maple syrup (or honey). If you'd like some heat, add the chili flakes or black pepper.
  3. Once pressed, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes or slices, depending on your preferred presentation.
Marinating
  1. Place the tofu pieces into the marinade, ensuring they’re fully coated. Cover and let it marinate for at least 30 minutes. For better flavor, let it sit in the fridge for a few hours or overnight!
Cooking
  1. Choose your cooking method: grill, bake, or pan-fry. If grilling, heat your grill to medium. For pan-frying, add a little oil in a non-stick pan and cook on medium-high heat for about 5-7 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  2. Once cooked to your liking, serve your finished Easy Tofu Marinades over rice, in a wrap, or with a side of veggies.

Notes

Store any leftover marinated tofu in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Can be frozen for up to a month. Thaw in the fridge overnight before reheating.
