Method
Preparation
- Start by cooking your lentils if you haven’t done so already. They should be tender but not mushy.
- In a large bowl, combine the cooked lentils, bread crumbs, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, grated carrot, and egg.
Seasoning
- Sprinkle in cumin, a pinch of salt, and pepper. Mix everything together until you achieve a well-combined mixture.
Forming the Patties
- With your hands, take a portion of the mixture and shape it into patties, around 2-3 inches in diameter.
Cooking
- In a skillet, heat oil over medium heat.
- Once the oil is hot, carefully place the patties in the pan. Cook each side for about 4-5 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
Serving
- Remove the patties and drain on paper towels. Serve warm with your choice of toppings.
Notes
For an egg-free version, use flaxseed meal mixed with water as a binder. Let cooked lentils cool before mixing for better shape retention. Don't skip the bread crumbs, as they're essential for binding and texture. Reheat in a skillet with a bit of oil for best results.
