Preparation
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
- Shape the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties, about 1-inch thick.
Cooking
- Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties and sear for 3 to 4 minutes on each side until browned. Remove from skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add sliced mushrooms and sauté for about 2 minutes. Pour in the beef broth, scraping up any browned bits.
- In a small bowl, whisk together cornstarch and water until smooth. Add this mixture to the gravy and stir until it thickens.
- Return the cooked patties to the skillet, cover, and simmer in the gravy for about 5 minutes.
Serving
- Serve the Salisbury steak warm with mashed potatoes or rice to soak up the gravy.
Notes
For meal prep, store in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the fridge or freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat gently.
