Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
For Frying and Coating

Preparation
  1. In a medium bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and ground nutmeg. Whisk until well-blended.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and melted butter until smooth.
  3. Gradually add the wet ingredients into the dry mixture, stirring gently to avoid overmixing, until thick and slightly lumpy.
Frying
  1. Heat enough oil for frying in a deep, heavy-bottomed pan over medium heat to about 350°F (175°C).
  2. Using a small spoon or cookie scoop, drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, frying in batches.
  3. Cook each batch for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
  4. Carefully remove the donut holes and drain on paper towels.
  5. Dust warm donut holes with powdered sugar if desired.
Serving
  1. Allow the donut holes to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For perfect donut holes, ensure fresh ingredients and monitor oil temperature carefully. Customize flavors with vanilla or cinnamon. Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days or freeze for a month. Reheat in the oven.
