Ingredients

Pastry Ingredients
  • 1 package puff pastry (about 17.3 oz, thawed)
Cheese Filling
  • 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Egg Wash
  • 1 egg for egg wash
  • 1 tablespoon milk for egg wash

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface, aiming for about 1/8-inch thickness.
  3. Cut the puff pastry into squares, approximately 4 inches by 4 inches.
  4. In a medium bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
  5. Place a spoonful of the cheese filling in the center of each puff pastry square.
  6. Fold the corners towards the center and pinch to create a pocket for the filling.
  7. Whisk together the egg and milk for the egg wash, and brush the tops of the pastries.
Baking
  1. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastries are puffed and golden brown.
  2. Let them cool slightly before serving; dust with powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

For substitutions, ricotta cheese can be used instead of cream cheese. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for up to a month.
