Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface, aiming for about 1/8-inch thickness.
- Cut the puff pastry into squares, approximately 4 inches by 4 inches.
- In a medium bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
- Place a spoonful of the cheese filling in the center of each puff pastry square.
- Fold the corners towards the center and pinch to create a pocket for the filling.
- Whisk together the egg and milk for the egg wash, and brush the tops of the pastries.
Baking
- Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastries are puffed and golden brown.
- Let them cool slightly before serving; dust with powdered sugar if desired.
Notes
For substitutions, ricotta cheese can be used instead of cream cheese. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for up to a month.
