Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup apples, peeled and diced
Optional Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup walnuts or pecans optional, for added crunch
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar for topping
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon for topping

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a loaf pan with a bit of butter or oil to prevent sticking.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the diced apples. If you’re using nuts, fold them in at this stage.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon for the topping, and sprinkle this mixture over the batter in the loaf pan.
Baking
  1. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and bake in the preheated oven for approximately 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Once baked, let the bread cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  3. Slice, serve, and enjoy!

Notes

Choose a baking apple like Granny Smith or Honey Crisp for the best flavor. You can use unsweetened applesauce in place of half of the butter for a lower-fat option. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week. For longer storage, freeze in portions for up to 3 months.
