Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a medium bowl, combine all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Whisk together until blended.
- Add the cold, cubed butter to the mixture. Use a pastry cutter or forks to blend until coarse crumbs form.
- Fold in chocolate chips or almond paste/Nutella if desired.
- Transfer the mixture to a floured surface and gently press into a circle about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into triangles.
- Starting from the wide end, roll each triangle towards the point to form croissants. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Brush the tops with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
Baking
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
For best results, use cold butter and avoid over-kneading the dough. Store in an airtight container for 2-3 days, or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes to crisp.
