Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 pounds potatoes, thinly sliced Opt for starchy varieties like Russets for the best texture.
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice) Feel free to experiment with Gouda or Gruyere.
  • 2 tablespoons butter For greasing the baking dish.
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh herbs for garnish (optional)

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a medium-sized baking dish with butter.
  3. Begin layering your thinly sliced potatoes in the baking dish.
Cooking
  1. In a bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Pour this mixture evenly over the layered potatoes.
  2. Sprinkle shredded cheese generously over the top.
  3. Cover the dish with foil and bake for about 40 minutes. Remove the foil halfway through to allow the cheese to melt and turn golden.
  4. Check the potatoes with a fork; they should be tender and creamy after about an hour of baking.
Serving
  1. Allow the dish to cool for a few minutes before garnishing with fresh herbs. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

If you have leftovers, allow them to cool completely before storing in an airtight container. Refrigerate for about 3-4 days or freeze for 2-3 months. Reheat in the oven at 350°F until warm throughout.
