Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 pounds potatoes, thinly sliced Starchy potatoes like Russets or Yukon Golds work best.
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or Gruyère) Experiment with different cheese blends.
  • 1 clove garlic, minced Feel free to use more if you love garlic!
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter For preparing the sauce.
  • for garnish Fresh herbs (like thyme or parsley)

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Wash and peel the potatoes. Slice them thinly using a mandoline for consistency, or a knife if you prefer.
  3. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add in minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute, until fragrant. Pour in heavy cream, seasoning with salt and pepper. Cook until warm but not boiling.
Layering and Baking
  1. In a greased baking dish, layer the thinly sliced potatoes. Pour a portion of the creamy sauce over them, and sprinkle half of the cheese. Repeat this process until all the potatoes, sauce, and cheese are used up.
  2. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and place it in the preheated oven. Bake for about 40 minutes.
  3. Remove the foil and allow it to bake for an additional 20 minutes until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
Serving
  1. Let it cool for a few minutes, then garnish with fresh herbs before serving. Your Classic Gluten Free Scalloped Potatoes are ready to impress!

Notes

Consider adding sautéed onions or mushrooms between the layers for a punch of flavor. Allowing the dish to bake uncovered at the end will result in crisp, beautifully browned cheese on top.
