Ingredients
  

Dough ingredients
  • 1.5 cups 1 1/2 cups warm water about 110°F
  • 1 packet 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 4 cups 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 cups 1/4 cup granulated sugar for the dough
  • 1 teaspoon 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 cups 1/4 cup baking soda for boiling
  • 0.5 cups 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
Coating ingredients
  • 1 cup 1 cup granulated sugar for coating
  • 2 teaspoons 2 teaspoons cinnamon

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine the warm water and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add the flour, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough begins to form.
  3. Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes.
Cooking
  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water to a boil, then carefully add 1/4 cup of baking soda.
  2. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope and shape it into a pretzel.
  3. Carefully drop the pretzels into the boiling baking soda solution for 30 seconds, then remove with a slotted spoon and place on a greased baking sheet.
  4. Brush the tops of the boiled pretzels with melted butter and then sprinkle generously with the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  6. Allow to cool slightly before serving, and enjoy your homemade Cinnamon Sugar Soft Pretzels!
