Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a donut pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, ground cinnamon, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix the melted butter, buttermilk, and large eggs until well combined.
- Slowly pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until you have a smooth batter. Be careful not to overmix.
- Fold in your diced apples, distributing them evenly throughout the batter.
- Using a piping bag or spoon, fill each donut cavity in your pan halfway.
Baking
- Place the pan in the oven and bake for 15-18 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the donuts to cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
- While still warm, roll them in cinnamon sugar to coat.
Serving
- Serve the donuts fresh and warm, ideally paired with a cup of tea or coffee.
Notes
Leftover donuts can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days, or in the refrigerator for about a week. Reheat in the microwave for 10-15 seconds.
