Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup buttermilk Can be substituted with plant-based alternatives.
  • 2 large eggs Use room temperature eggs for better rising.
Filling
  • 1 cup peeled and diced apples Use fresh, crisp apples for the best flavor.
For Coating
  • to taste Cinnamon sugar

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a donut pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, ground cinnamon, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix the melted butter, buttermilk, and large eggs until well combined.
  4. Slowly pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until you have a smooth batter. Be careful not to overmix.
  5. Fold in your diced apples, distributing them evenly throughout the batter.
  6. Using a piping bag or spoon, fill each donut cavity in your pan halfway.
Baking
  1. Place the pan in the oven and bake for 15-18 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Allow the donuts to cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
  3. While still warm, roll them in cinnamon sugar to coat.
Serving
  1. Serve the donuts fresh and warm, ideally paired with a cup of tea or coffee.

Notes

Leftover donuts can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days, or in the refrigerator for about a week. Reheat in the microwave for 10-15 seconds.
