- In a medium saucepan over low heat, combine the chocolate chips and heavy cream. Stir gently until the chocolate is fully melted and smooth, about 3-5 minutes.
- Once melted, remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the sugar and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Pour the mixture into a mixing bowl and let it cool slightly for about 10 minutes before placing it in the refrigerator for 30-45 minutes to thicken.
- While waiting, whip some heavy cream until soft peaks form, if you prefer homemade whipped cream.
- Once the chocolate mixture has thickened, spoon it into dessert dishes. Top with a dollop of whipped cream and sprinkle with chocolate shavings.
- Serve immediately or chill a bit longer if desired.
Notes
For a vegan version, substitute with dairy-free chocolate chips and coconut cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator and enjoy within 3-5 days.
