Preparation
- Start by cutting the ripe avocados in half and removing the pit. Scoop out the avocado flesh and place it in a food processor or blender.
- To the avocado, add the unsweetened cocoa powder, maple syrup, almond milk, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt.
- Blend all the ingredients together until you achieve a creamy and smooth consistency. This process may take a minute or two. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as necessary to ensure everything is well combined.
- At this stage, you can give the mousse a quick taste. If it’s not sweet enough for you, feel free to add a touch more maple syrup. Blend again to combine.
- Transfer the mousse into serving bowls or glasses and cover them. Place the bowls in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to firm up. This chilling step enhances the flavors and texture.
- Before serving, top your mousse with fresh berries, a dollop of whipped coconut cream, or a sprinkle of chopped nuts for extra flair.
Notes
This mousse is best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. For freezing, store in an airtight container for up to a month; texture may change upon thawing.
