Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- If using, dice your onion.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the can of chili and diced onions.
- Spread the chili mixture in a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Layer the frozen tater tots evenly over the chili.
- Sprinkle the shredded cheese generously over the top of the tater tots.
Baking
- Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy.
- Once baked, remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes.
- Serve hot, with a dollop of sour cream if desired.
Notes
Experiment with different types of chili for variation. Avoid thawing tater tots before baking to maintain crispiness.
