  • 1 pound ground beef Ensure it’s halal certified.
  • 1 packet taco seasoning Ensure it’s halal-friendly.
  • 1 can refried beans Check for halal certification.
  • 1 cup salsa Choose spice level of your choice!
  • 3 cups tortilla chips Look for halal-friendly brands.
  • 2 cups shredded cheese Cheddar or Mexican blend, ensure it's halal.
  • 1 cup sour cream Confirm it’s halal certified.
  • to taste chopped green onions For garnish.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  3. Add the taco seasoning to the cooked beef and follow the package instructions, usually adding a bit of water. Stir and let simmer for about 5 minutes.
Layering
  1. In a large baking dish, layer half of the tortilla chips at the bottom.
  2. Spread half of the refried beans over the chips.
  3. Layer half of the beef mixture followed by a generous amount of salsa.
  4. Add one cup of shredded cheese on top.
  5. Repeat the process with the remaining tortilla chips, beans, beef, salsa, and finish with the remaining cheese.
Baking
  1. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  2. Allow it to cool for a few minutes, then top with sour cream and chopped green onions before serving.

Notes

For a healthier version, consider using turkey or chicken instead of ground beef. You can also opt for low-fat cheese or Greek yogurt instead of sour cream. Ensure even distribution of layers for balanced flavor in every bite.
