  • 2 pounds potatoes, thinly sliced Starchy potatoes like Russets work best.
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 4 tablespoons butter Dotted on top for rich flavor.
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (such as cheddar) Feel free to experiment with other cheeses.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional) Adds color and flavor to the dish.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Wash and peel the potatoes, then slice them thinly, about 1/8 inch thick.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the heavy cream, milk, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Whisk together until well-blended.
Layering
  1. In a greased baking dish, create a layer of sliced potatoes.
  2. Pour a portion of the cream mixture over the top, then add a sprinkle of cheese. Repeat this layering process until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of cream and cheese on top.
  3. Dot the top with small pieces of butter.
Baking
  1. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes.
  2. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the top is golden and bubbly.
Serving
  1. Let it rest for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
  2. Serve warm and enjoy this creamy delight!

Notes

Can be prepared ahead of time. Allow leftovers to cool before storing in an airtight container. They can be refrigerated for 3-4 days or frozen for 2-3 months. Reheat in the oven with a splash of milk for creaminess.
