Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 8 oz pasta (any shape you prefer)
  • 1 cup broccoli florets (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Parmesan cheese (optional)

Method

Cooking the Pasta
  1. Begin by bringing a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add your pasta and cook according to the package instructions, usually around 8-10 minutes, until al dente.
Preparing the Broccoli
  1. In the last 3-4 minutes of cooking, add the broccoli florets to the pot with the pasta. This ensures they become bright green but still crunchy.
Sautéing the Garlic and Chickpeas
  1. While the pasta and broccoli are cooking, heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic, cooking for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Then, add the chickpeas, cooking for another 2-3 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
Combining Ingredients
  1. Once the pasta and broccoli are done, drain them and add them straight to the skillet with the chickpeas and garlic. Toss everything together to coat evenly.
Serving the Dish
  1. Plate your Broccoli Chickpea Pasta and, if desired, top with a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese. Serve warm!

Notes

You can use whole wheat or gluten-free pasta to suit dietary preferences. Adding red pepper flakes can give the dish a delightful kick. Be sure not to overcook the broccoli to maintain a perfect texture contrast. Remember to salt the water when cooking pasta.
