Preparation
- Begin by pressing the tofu to remove excess moisture. Wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object on top for about 15 minutes.
- Once pressed, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes.
Cooking
- Heat vegetable oil in a non-stick pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the diced tofu and cook until all sides are golden brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes.
- Reduce heat to medium and add minced garlic and grated ginger. Stir for about 1 minute until fragrant.
- Pour in the soy sauce and sesame oil, stirring to coat the tofu evenly. Add a pinch of salt and pepper. Allow it to simmer for about 3-5 minutes, letting the sauce thicken slightly.
- Finally, toss in the fresh basil leaves, stirring until they wilt and infuse their flavor into the sauce.
- Remove from heat and transfer your delicious Braised Tofu with Basil to a serving dish.
Notes
For best results, serve with rice or noodles. Consider adding sesame seeds or green onions as toppings. Avoid overcooking basil to prevent bitterness.
