  • 1 block firm tofu Press to remove excess moisture.
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves Use for garnishing and flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce For seasoning.
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil Adds richness to the sauce.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced For aromatics.
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated Enhances the flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil For frying the tofu.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Begin by pressing the tofu to remove excess moisture. Wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object on top for about 15 minutes.
  2. Once pressed, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes.
Cooking
  1. Heat vegetable oil in a non-stick pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the diced tofu and cook until all sides are golden brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Reduce heat to medium and add minced garlic and grated ginger. Stir for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Pour in the soy sauce and sesame oil, stirring to coat the tofu evenly. Add a pinch of salt and pepper. Allow it to simmer for about 3-5 minutes, letting the sauce thicken slightly.
  4. Finally, toss in the fresh basil leaves, stirring until they wilt and infuse their flavor into the sauce.
  5. Remove from heat and transfer your delicious Braised Tofu with Basil to a serving dish.

Notes

For best results, serve with rice or noodles. Consider adding sesame seeds or green onions as toppings. Avoid overcooking basil to prevent bitterness.
