Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound beef sausage (halal)
  • 1 can kidney beans (drained and rinsed)
  • 1 can diced tomatoes
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • 2 tablespoons oil for sautéing

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by gathering all your ingredients. Chop the onion, bell pepper, and mince the garlic.
Cooking
  1. In a large pot, heat about 2 tablespoons of oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and bell peppers, cooking them until they’re soft and fragrant, roughly 5 minutes.
  2. Toss in the minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute, ensuring it doesn’t burn.
  3. Add the beef sausage to the pot, breaking it apart with a spoon. Brown the sausage until fully cooked, about 8-10 minutes.
  4. Stir in the kidney beans, diced tomatoes, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine all the flavors.
  5. Lower the heat and let the chili simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  6. Sample your chili and adjust seasoning if necessary.
  7. Ladle the chili into bowls and add your favorite toppings. Enjoy!

Notes

You can use turkey or chicken sausage instead of beef for a lighter option. Simmering helps enhance the flavors.
