Ingredients

Apple Filling
  • 6 cups sliced apples (about 6-8 medium apples) Use a mix of tart and sweet apples like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar Can reduce sugar or substitute with sugar alternatives.
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Crisp Topping
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, granulated sugar, and cinnamon until well-coated.
  3. Pour the apple mixture into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, melted butter, and salt. Stir until everything is coated in butter and crumbly.
  5. Spread the topping evenly over the apple mixture in the baking dish.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes, or until the apples are bubbly and the topping is golden brown.
  7. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving warm, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.

Notes

For the best flavor, ensure apples are fresh and consider timing to prevent over-browning the topping. Store leftovers covered in foil or plastic wrap in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or freeze before baking for up to 3 months.
